San Angelo ISD teachers, staff, and administrators gathered on the morning of Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at the San Angelo Stadium for a district-wide, outdoor annual back-to-school convocation. The celebratory event welcomes all district employees to the new school year and provides a pep rally-type atmosphere honoring each campus and department - and every one of our Difference Makers.
This year’s theme took inspiration from the new Elvis movie, the audience was entertained by an Elvis impersonator contest featuring a representative from each of our SAISD campuses and departments.
The keynote speaker for this year’s event was Stephen Mackey, a player development coach, keynote speaker, and founder of 2Words Character Development - one of the top Leadership and character curriculums in the country. Building on six pillars, integrity, service, excellence, belief, effort, and toughness, Mackey equips teams and organizations with skills to elevate their performance by building a culture of character. Mackey’s speech included messages in alignment with our district mission such as “Leadership is the transfer of belief…take your belief in your students and transfer it to them…be over-believers in who they can become.”
SAISD student smartness was on full display throughout the event with performances by our combined Central High School and Lake View High School bands, orchestras and choirs while LVHS mariachi and CHS cheer greeted our difference maker employees at the gate as they entered.
Other highlights of the morning included a presentation of colors by combined CHS and LVHS JROTC color guards, pledges and National Anthem led by student council presidents and vice-presidents from CHS and LVHS, and recognitions of special guests from Goodfellow Airforce Base, the City of San Angelo, the San Angelo Fire Department, and the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office.
